Jeff Taylor Wins Season Opener at OPS

OXFORD, ME - Veteran driver Jeff Taylor of Farmington stole the show in the Super Late Models Saturday night to win the first race of the season after a very long off season. Oxford finally opened this weekend. There may have been no fans because of the current pandemic, but there was a very full schedule of racing! Saturday began with OAS divisions racing starting at 10:15 and ended with OCS divisions racing at 5.

Ryan Farrar of Oxford picked up his first win of the season in the Sport Trucks after leading all 20 laps. Derrick Drown took 2nd early on but lost the spot with 3 to go after a restart. Seth Drown of Lyman took over the spot and Max Rowe of Turner finished in 3rd. Randy Green of West Paris and Derick Drown of Lyman rounded out the top 5.

Chloe Kiley of South Paris won her first Ladies feature of the season after leading all 20 laps. Kasie Kolby of Lisbon picked up 2nd with Mckalla Pulk of Litchfield taking home a cool 3rd place.

Will Dunphy of New Glouester picked up where he left off last season, winning his first of the season in the Cruisers. Dunphy led all of the feature. Bill Grover of Waterford moved into 3rd on lap 4 before taking 2nd during the final laps. Phil Knowlton of Minot settled for a 3rd place finish.

Jonathan Emerson of Sabattus won in the Outlaws barely holding off Brandon Varney who was on his bumper the entire race. Varney of Mechanic Falls tried every which way he could to get by Emerson but ended up settling for a 2nd place finish. Cam Childs of Leeds snuck up into the 3rd spot on lap 13 and remained there until the checkered flag was waved.

Matt Mahar of Turner won the Rebel's feature after Zach Audet who led the entire race was Dq'd in post race tech. Cody White of Buckfield took home a 2nd place finish while Nate Dubuc of Lewiston rounded out the top 3.

Brady Heath of Waterford took the checkered in the Rookies feature passing Cole Binette on lap 2. Binette of Arundel settled for a 2nd place finish while Jeremy Turner of Norway picked up 3rd place.

Jordan Russell of Norway dominated in the Street Stocks winning the feature after leading all 30 laps. Kurt Hewins moved through the field, quickly passing Matt Dufault for 3rd on lap 3, then passing for 2nd the following lap. Billy Childs followed him moving into 3rd. Tempers flared when a caution came out on lap 12. Dan Brown and Mike Rand got together on the backstretch both ending up in the wall. After another caution on the restart Childs took over 2nd and Hewins fell back to 3rd. Billy Childs Jr. of Leeds took home 2nd with Kurt Hewins also of Leeds rounding out the top 3.

Alex Mowatt of Norway topped the field in the Bandits leading the whole feature. Brandon Varney spent most of the race chasing down Mowatt while Michael Mckinney barely held off Chad Wills who was knocking hard on his door. After two cautions on laps 10 and 18, Brandon Varney of Mechanic Falls had to once again settle for a 2nd place finish while Mike Mckinney of Greenwood held onto 3rd place.

Taylor took the lead at the start of the Super Late Model race and didn't look back. Gabe Brown and Dave Farrington battled for 2nd place early on before Farrington finally pulled away into 2nd and Brown fell back to 3rd. Curtis Gerry passed Brown for 3rd on lap 4. By lap 18 the top 3 had pulled away but no one could catch Taylor. Dave Farrington Jr. of Sabattus took home a 2nd place finish with Curtis Gerry of Waterboro picking up a solid 3rd place.

Races continue next Saturday night July 4th with both OAS and OCS. More details to come this week.
