Ashline Locks into Oxford 250
by Winning 100 Lapper at OPS

OXFORD, ME -- Ben Ashline of Pittston won the 100 lap Super late Model feature on Saturday night to earn himself a starting spot in this year's Oxford 250. The Oxford Acceleration Series kicked off the night with lots of action, giving the Oxford Championship series drivers the week off.

Kevin Varney of Mechanic Falls put on a show in the Tiger Cat Figure 8s presented by Vierra State Farm Agency. Varney led all 15 laps to win his first of the season. Dustin Salley of Mechanic Falls picked up 2nd with Scott Merrill of Poland rounding out the top 3.

Kyle Glover of Oxford took home his 2nd win of the season in the Vierra State Farm Agency Figure 8s. Glover took the early lead and ran away with it. Greg Durgin of South Paris and Eric Hodgkins of Winthrop finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Chloe Kiley of South Paris topped the Allen's Coffee Flavored Brandy Ladies division to win her 6th race of the season. Betty Nelson took the early lead but only led half a lap before Kiley reached her and took the lead. Betty Nelson of Limington settled for 2nd place while Addie McDaniel of Bridgton finished in 3rd.

David Cook of Jay won his 2nd Mixers Nightclub and Lounge Rebels feature of this season. Corey Roussel took the early lead and led until a caution on lap 6. On the restart Cook passed him on the bottom groove for the lead and Matt Mahar followed, taking over 2nd. Dustin Salley moved into 3rd on lap 12. Cook led the rest of the feature,Matt Mahar of Turner picked up 2nd with Dustin Salley of Mechanic Falls finishing a solid 3rd place finish.

Ryan Farrar of Oxford picked up his 6th win of the season in the DnL Weatherization Sport Trucks. Kyle Glover took the early lead with Jake Dobson and Alex Moore battling it out for 2nd. Moore moved up to the outside of the leader and went 3 wide with Dobson for the lead. Dobson took the lead on lap 3 while Farrar was making his way up to him. Farrar passed both 2nd place and the leader on lap 7. Farrar led the rest of the 20 lap feature,Alex Moore of Oxford ended up in 2nd with Randy Green of West Paris taking home 3rd.

Will Dunphy Jr of New Glouester won his 5th Rogees Auto Repair and Sales Cruisers feature of the season.William Barker took the early lead but by lap 2 Matt Hiscock had gone 3 wide passing for the lead. Shortly after Barker and Phil Knowlton made contact, sending Knowlton into the frontstretch wall. Knowlton was fine but his car was not,they went under a red flag while they cleaned up the track. Hiscock kept the lead on the restart before Dunphy made his way to his bumper and tried passing him on the outside but ultimately passed him on the inside during lap 5. Will Dunphy led the rest of the feature,Matt Hiscock of Turner settled for 2nd place and Dominik Knowlton of Minot picked up 3rd.

Brandon Varney of Mechanic Falls took home his 5th win of the season in the Harnish HVAC Consulting Outlaws. Varney moved up the outside at the start and took the lead before lap 1 was complete. John Lizotte sat in 2nd with Rick Thompson behind him in 3rd. Brady Childs moved to the inside, passing Thompson on lap 5 for 3rd, Thompson backed off and Johnathon Emerson moved to the outside of B.Childs taking 3rd from him on lap 10. Emerson moved on to pass Lizotte on the same lap. After a caution on lap 16, Varney kept the lead while Emerson fell off the pace. B. Childs moved back up to 2nd while Cam Childs pulled up to 3rd. Brandon Varney led the rest of the 20 lap feature,Brady Childs of Leeds finished in 2nd with Cam Childs of Leeds rounding out the top 3.

Tim Brackett started pole during the 100 lap Super late model feature but after a bad start, Ben Ashline took the lead on the restart. Wyatt Alexander pulled into 2nd and Brackett fell back to 3rd. Ashline was uncatchable by the halfway point he had already started passing cars in the rear of the field. Alan Tardiff took over 3rd and was able to hold onto it until Derek Griffith made his way through the field to take over 3rd. By lap 89 Griffith had caught up to Alexander and passed him on the inside for 2nd on lap 97. Ben Ashline led all 100 laps of the race, Derek Griffith of Hudson NH finished an impressive 2nd place finish while Wyatt Alexander of Ellsworth picked up a solid 3rd place finish. It will be interesting to see how those 3 drivers do next weekend during the Oxford 250!

Next weekend is The 47th Annual Oxford 250 while things are a bit different this year the big weekend will still go on. Friday, Aug 28th races start at 6, Saturday, Aug 29th races start at 430 and then the Sunday Aug 30th events start at 1:30. Limited tickets will be available Friday and Saturday but the entire weekend will be broadcasted on Speed51.
