MOTOR MAYHEM

July 10, 2009

Webster, Audet prevail in Enduros;
Bruce ditches Dennis in Berry battle

OXFORD, Maine – A few newcomers flexed their muscles before a big crowd at Friday's first Motor Mayhem event of the season at Oxford Plains Speedway.

Experience still reigned, however, with Acceleration Series veterans Zach Audet and Charlie Webster scoring the victories in twin, 50-lap Enduros.

Audet dominated the full-size scrap for his first triumph at the track above the 4-cylinder threshold. Webster repeated some of his past glories with an impressive performance in the Compact segment of the program.

Both men pocketed $500 for their efforts.

In other action, Bruce Berry survived a tangle with brother Dennis in the opening round of the final to capture a 2-1 victory in the best-of-three Spectator Drags.

Jim Pineo squealed his 1972 Monte Carlo to victory in the Smoky Donut Show, winning the crowd-pleasing contest over Josh Laird and six other hopefuls.

Gerald Parlin and Randy Robitaille collected the checkers in the 20-lap Tag Team race when it was ruled that apparent winners Jamie Heath and Craig Bartlett failed to legally complete one of the prescribed "tags." Skip Douglass Jr. and Jimmy Childs claimed second.

Webster and Kyle Hewins swapped the lead seven times over the first 15 laps of the Compact Enduro before Webster set sail. Douglass drove around Hewins in the late stages to snag second. Jamie Heath and Corey Williams completed the top five.

Jim Bradstreet led for a spell in the full-size finale before Audet took over and put the entire field one lap in arrears. Bradstreet ran a strong second with Bobby Scammon third in the first racing endeavor of his life.

Keith Landry made his 2009 OPS debut in fourth, followed by Motor Mayhem mainstay Mike St. Germain in fifth.

The next Motor Mayhem is scheduled for Friday, August 7, featuring the Dodge Raminator Monster Truck and a full slate of non-traditional racing activity.
