Hall, Ireland only ones to beat
lightning; Double features for Championship Night
OXFORD, Maine - Lightning and impending heavy rain caused
postponement of Saturday night's Championship Series event at Oxford
Plains Speedway on lap 8 of the Mini Stock feature.
Grover Gundrilling Championship Night
will feature the completion of that race, plus the Strictly and Late
Model features, plus regularly scheduled heats and features for all
three divisions. The program will begin at the regular time of 6:30
p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1.
Rain checks may not be used, as we
had already completed eight full races.
Prior to the opening skies, Quick
Super Cup Series drivers Fred Ireland and Rich Hall won twin 20-lap
feature races for the touring division. Hall is a former Mini Cup
champion and Macdonald Motors Runnin' Rebel competitor in the Oxford
Acceleration Series.
Francis Bernard Jr. finished second
in each race.
Heat winners were rookie B.J. Chapman
and Dale Verrill in Oxford Networks Late Model, Darick Barker
and Jimmy Childs in Allen's Coffee Flavored Brandy Mini Stock, and
Rick Thompson and Kim Tripp in Allen's Strictly Stock.
OPS returns to action Sunday with its
third Motor Mayhem program of the season, featuring Twin Enduros,
Spectator Drags and a Smoky Donut Show. Racing starts at 1 p.m.
