SLM Champ Cookson MODS Champ Varney
Big Weekend Finale at OPS
Crowns Champions, Winners

Cookson, Varney win the wars.
Brown, Morse win the battles.
Teras & Varney score wins on Friday.
Oxford ME - As the calendar creep toward the winter months, the Pro All Stars Series season came to a conclusion at Oxford Plains Speedway with one big Mega Weekend last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday that saw multiple divisions in action and a pair of young champions crowned. Austin Teras won the Joe Pro 150 on Friday while Brandon Varney secured his 6th win of the season and Gabe Brown was triumphant on Sunday with Spencer Morse nailing down his first win of the season. Max Cookson wrapped up an amazing triple championship season, while Varney scored his first career touring division championship in the PASS MODS.

Cookson, with the weekly Oxford Plains Speedway title in hand, completed the trifecta with an 8th place overall finish on Sunday to secure the PASS SLM North AND SLM National Championships for 2023. Cookson achieved the rare feat using a model of consistency as the strategy to wear down the competition. While the number 39 only scored a single victory on the tour, he made his way to the top ten in all 15 North races as well as the National only races. The young driver from Palmyra came into the season with the title as his goal and developed a driving style that was conducive to finishing the long distance races near the front week in and week out.

Varney's strategy was much the same, as the Auburn driver finished in the top 5 in 12 of 13 races while coming home winner in 6 of those. After a runner up finish in the PASS MODS class in 2022, the 26 year old was determined to score one better in 2023. A win on opening day meant the #1 team led the standings from start to finish. Varney also scored the Weston Automotive PASS MODS Challenge Championship proving the driver is capable of winning outside of his home track of Oxford Plains Speedway.

The weekend festivities started off with a make-up of the previously rained out Joe Pro Diesel Specialist 150 on Friday. A heated battle for the win between Austin Teras and Gabe Brown consumed the second half of the race. The two youngsters swapped the lead multiple times as they weaved in and out of lapped traffic before Teras ultimately beat Brown across the line by a car length for the $5000 victory. Rounding out the top 5 were DJ Shaw, Max Cookson, and TJ Brackett.

Brandon Varney continued his winning ways in the Kennebec Equipment Rental PASS MODS as he took the lead from the Spencer Morse near the mid-point of the 50 lap tilt and cruised to the victory. Ryan Hewins and Zach Bowie rounded out the top 3. Corey Morgan, Brian Caswell, and Tyler Jalbert were the top 3 in the $400 to win Cooleys Commercial Tire Mad bomber 30.

Sunday's card featured triple segment events for both the PASS Super Late Models and the PASS MODS, while the Dow Excavating Limited Sportsman raced 75 laps and the Spaulding Roofing Street Stocks went 50.

Gabe Brown grabbed the victory he narrowly missed on Friday by scoring finishes of 3rd, 8th, and 7th for 18 points respectively in the three 100 lap segments. Runnerup with 19 points was DJ Shaw, with Austin Teras, Mike Rowe, and Corey Bubar rounding out the top 5. Segment winners were Joey Doiron, Mike Rowe, and Austin Teras.

The Kennebec Equipment Rental PASS MODS sponsored by Bessey Motor Sales "Triple 30s" was snagged Spencer Morse who used a pair of segment wins and a sixth place finish to grab his first win of the season taking home nearly $1500. Morse narrowly edged out veteran Bill Dixon who used two 4th place finished and a last segment win to come home runner-up in what may be his last career race. Rounding out the top 3 was Evan Roy who finished 7th, 2nd and 2nd for a total of 11 points. Ryan Ripley and Spencer Vaughn rounded out the top 5.

Chris Smith, Kenny Harrison and Mike St. Pierre were first to the line in the 75 lap Dow Excavation Limited Sportsman tilt with Bubba Pelton and Jordan Russell rounding out the top 5. Billy Childs Jr., Brandon Johnson, Clyde Hennessey, Chaz Briggs, and Brian Caswell were the top 5 in the Spaulding Roofing Street Stock 50.

Other Winners over the Weekend were Tyler Jalbert in the Oxford Auto Salvage Mad Bomber Special, Thomas Richards in the KHM Thunderstocks, Nate Dubuc in the 207 Brand Runnin Rebels, and Bobby Symonds in the Wicked Good Vintage cars.

Oxford Plains Speedway and The Pro All Stars Series celebrate their champions on November 10th and 11th at the Hilton Garden Inn located in Auburn, Maine. Tickets are on sale now.
